Profinch enables Ethiopia's Debub Global bank go-live with cutting edge core banking system and connected digital banking experience for its customers.
With 150+ physical branches across the country, DGB (Debub Global Bank) is a highly reputed bank in Ethiopia. DGB’s Core Banking Solution business portfolios involve retail, corporate, credit (CL, OD), trade (LC, BC), payments, Islamic financing (IFB window) and branch operations.
What did Debub aspire to do?
To enhance their mobile and internet banking experiences for customers, DGB was looking to:
- Upgrade to cutting-edge core banking system
- Implementation of a connected digital banking experience
Project scope to address the needs:
- FLEXCUBE implementations: Core, CIF, CASA and Term Deposits, Islamic CASA, Islamic Deposits, Oracle Banking Branch, Consumer Lending, Islamic Finance, Enterprise Limits and Collateral Management, Letter of Credit and Guarantee, Bills and Collection, Standing Instructions, Oracle Banking Payments, Fixed Assets and Inventory Management and Retail Operations
- Proving support for ATM, SWIFT, Cheque point system (CPS), ECX, GuzoGo, Telebirr, and Salary upload integration with FCUBS
- OBDX 21.1 with its operations covering all out-of-the-box functionalities, Admin & Corporate Admin, CASA, Term Deposit, Loans and Finances – Conventional and Islamic, Payments – Internal and Self Transfers, Personal Finance Management, Soft Token, Payments – Domestic Transfers via EthSwitch & RTGS, Bill Payments (including Quick Bill Pay), Wallets & Wallet Payee, Airtime, Telebirr, Guzogo, Online Registration, Bank Name dropdown, ETB default & disable currency, Name Inquiry for Internal and EthSwitch.
- Changes in OBDX that are customized to suit the bank’s branding
- Coordinate with the principal application provider (Oracle Financial Services) for any resolutions that need changes at Oracle Product FLEXCUBE
Key achievements of the project:
- 700K+ customer journeys were enhanced
- 150+ conventional branches with 120 Islamic windows were impacted

Concluding note:
Enabling DGB with enhanced digital capabilities and a cutting edge Core Banking system upgrade marked Profinch’s fifth successful implementation in Ethiopia. There were multiple challenges on the way including third party API integration, unpredictable blockers etc and the hurdles were crossed because of the team’s patience and hard work.
